The modern stone age medical mafia must be avoided at all times, if possible. From the day you are born, one of your lifelong missions should be to stay way from modern medicine unless you have a death wish. Mankind survived for thousands of years without drugs and can do so today.

Great info. This is why I love substack. Also, big believer in Lugol's solution for iodine supplementation.

Thanks for this complication. Rereading this info helps remind me to add a drop of Lugol's to my water bottle. Topical application was something I researched if beneficial in order to start slow.

Is nascent iodine the type of iodine used in Edgar Cayce's Atomidine formula? Powerful indeed.

Good question. I hope someone in our virtual community knows the answer!!

There are several Cayce websites, I don't know if they're related or not.

The iodine demonization sounds similar to the borax demonization, relegating borax to a toxic cleaning compound and boric acid as a poisonous insecticide. Everyone should read "The Borax Conspiracy". Our bodies NEED boron and our soils have been depleted of it. Taken with magnesium, borax has a positive effect on eliminating arthritis pain. I used to watch videos by "Adrian" on YT but it seems his channel has been removed but there are other borax/magnesium videos. I put a pinch of 20 Mules Team borax in a glass/bottle of water daily. I also put borax in my bath water, along with Epsom salts.

You sound like a nutritionalist or naturopath or maybe a functional doctor. I'd love to chat. Reply to any of these posts and I'll send you my phone number.

Yes , I was a DC in active practice for 30 years and retired in 2013 . I started in functional medicine decades ago when Jeffrey Bland started it . After 2013 I only practice patient -focused personalized nutrition . I specialize in the most difficult patients , such as stage 4 cancer , Alzheimer’s and other cognitive areas of decline , PD , and of all things , infertility .i use nutrition to support the physiology , hopefully in a thoughtful manner . My main sub-specialties include cardiovascular nutrition , epigenetic nutrition , optimized aging , and herbology . I study at least two hours a day , which is not easy since I live just rurally enough to not have internet !

If this sounds like you would like to make a connection , I’d be delighted !

I do love your posts . The information is very relevant to clinical practice . The question on selenium and mercury is interesting . Selenium complexes with mercury to decrease the toxic effect . Secondarily to glyphosate , this is one reason we clinicians are seeing much more selenium deficiency , even in the general population . I’m sure you know this !!!

I sent my number , for texting , as I do not answer my phone readily . If I know it is you , I certainly will !!

A few words about the potentially negative impacts of Iodine supplementation for people who have autoimmune thyroid disease, i.e. Hashimoto’s or Grave’s Disease: iodine supplementation in these conditions may further irritate and inflame the thyroid gland. Thyroid experts Dr Alan Christianson, Dr Richard Shames, and Dr Datis Kharrazian (and many other well-respected and well-researched practitioners) educate about the dangers of iodine supplementation for those with an autoimmune thyroid condition.

Great point . I often find they actually need it but are terribly sensitive . Symporter issues perhaps .

I use a spectrophotometer in -office to look at iodine content intracellularly . It is amazing how many people are low in it . Also , remember to add selenium when supplementing with iodine !

I've read that selenium 200 mcg/day is a good supplement to use for mercury considerations. I am not practicing but can you tell us about its use with iodine?

Expand full comment
Aug 7, 2023Liked by Robert Yoho MD (ret)

Yes . I usually suggest a 200mcg dose , especially if couple with a vitamin E ( not just an alpha-tocopherol but full spectrum ). These days I see many patients with selenium deficiency . Apparently our exposure to glyphosate really decreases our available selenium . Since I have rarely seen patients with too much selenium , especially in more recent years , I often might use a 3-400 mcg dose initially ( at least 60 days).

The research on selenium is amazing . Life extension protocols state that 200 mcg per day can effectively reduce prostate cancer in men by 63 percent . For women , it is protective of the ovaries in particular . ( I wish I could hyperlink you to these articles but it is a skill I need to learn soon !)

I’m fortunate to have a spectrophotometer in-office . (SpectraCell Labs offers a nutrient analysis intracellularly which is quite good . )

Wm. Lee Cowden MD, MD(H) ( Cowden protocol for Lyme )once made the statement that over the years he has had to use higher doses of selenium than he did forty years ago .

Reasoning to use selenium with iodine is a basic protection of the thyroid gland . Most likely due to slowing of oxidative stress issues we might see with use of iodine !

Great information and it’s good to see the truth finally getting the exposure it should have. Iodine is incredible stuff and changes peoples lives. I’m a nascent iodine fan. Have been since 2009. I haven’t had to take oral antibiotics for well over a decade. It has so many uses. Even inhaling the fumes of nascent iodine into the lungs can improve the symptoms of a respiratory virus but I found taking nascent iodine orally everyday without fail prevents people getting flus in the first place

In the summer I’d take 6 drops in the morning. In winter as I was working around others and as it was flu season I would take 6 drops twice a day

1 in morning and one half an hour after lunch

Never got a flu!

Dr. Yoho, you write above: "At the Yahoo iodine group HERE, learn from beginners, long-time iodine takers, and several practitioners." (linking to yahoo groups)

Yahoo groups were killed a few years back. So much good info lost. (It was a hostile takeover by Yahoo, of egroups.) If anyone here knows of a replacement, I would love to hear it. Curezone is so chock full of ads and nonsense it's practically unusable. And all patient-driven discussion groups I have seen lately are astroturf.

When I've taken Iodoral, I get a severe headache. I read elsewhere this is actually from the toxic cancer-causing BROMIDE being detoxed from my brain. How do I execute this process without pain? Topical Lugol's doesn't cause headaches for me.

Thank you for this resource....sometimes reading your Substack's feels like drinking from a garden hose!

So. Much. Good. Stuff.

What do you (author or readers) think of a skin patch test prior to starting an iodine supplementation protocol? I'm reading descriptions of applying a 2% Lugol's solution to a 2"x 2" square of skin and observing how much is still there 24h later---ie if it's clear, you're deficient, if not, you're not? Some discuss supplementing transdermally rather than orally---do you have an opinion in that regard? Info on the Lugol's site promotes oral use only.....https://www.lugolsnaturals.com/

Thanks, all.

I had a lump in my breast about 5 years ago. I went to a doctor just to hear what they would recommend. Not surprisingly, she recommended surgical removal of the lump “whether it was cancer or not”. I actually laughed out loud when she said that. Very predictable. She didn’t ask about diet, lifestyle, or even wait for a scan. I was only in the room with the doctor for about 10 minutes before having surgery recommended.

I started doing research, specifically about breast health, and then was reminded that I should be taking iodine. I had just become busy and forgot over a few years time. I ordered an expensive bottle of breast ointment and applied it. Lump was gone in less than a month. Has not returned. Maybe it would have resolved on its own but I’m glad I didn’t follow the medical advice to have it surgically removed. Saved myself about $20,000 or so and scars and recovery and I would still be iodine deficient. Bad news for the hospital and surgeon. They lost out on a lot of money from me.

I just finished the book, The Iodine Crisis. It’s amazing! I’m very inspired and have shared the book title with friends and family.

Btw, I wanted to share the interview with someone that you posted between Dr Mercola and a man who was talking about how damaging ketogenic and intermittent fasting diets are. I can’t seem to find it the link in your substack. Can you share the link with me please?
