You hit every piece of advice I received when I was trained and got my permit. Tennessee has advanced to Lifetime permits, to Permitless. I advise to get training, practice, practice. Change weapons more practice. A gun must fit your hand, your ability to use. Don't start with more gun than you can handle. Most Ranges will let you try out different models, and calibers. My first was a Bersa .380 automatic. I've used up to a 30/30 under supervision. Realize your hands, and eyesight and hearing are important, and may change the model you carry. Arthritis made it hard to rack the automatic, and clean it, yes every time you fire a weapon it has to be taken apart and cleaned right, do it wrong it can backfire on you.

My next was a revolver, Taurus Ultra Lite .38. Hand surgery changed that, I now carry a S/W Airweight Hammerless .38sp. I still hit center mass. but the pattern is not as tight.

There is not a day or night that goes by in Memphis, TN there aren't shootings, killings, a 2 year old was the latest gang banger victim. Soft on Crime = more crime. Worse Crime. Best have a strong stomach. The murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2017/08/24/archives-horror-christian-newsom-killings-focus-what-happened-chipman-street/597805001/

And remember the 2nd Amendment was put in the US Constitution to Control a rogue government. Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.

James Madison,

Mother of a murdered child, weapon was a 2 ft section of 4 x 4 fencepost, so some Sociopath could get his jollies. 8.5 yrs in prison for a Plea Bargained M1 to M2, 20 yrs, 30% is the average serve time in state prisons. NEVER hesitate, aim true, empty clip or chamber. Your life is more important than a Monster who has no qualms of taking yours, over a $2.00 piece of chicken.

My takeaway:

There are many paradigms in which one may be a sheep, wolf, or knight. What makes you a knight in one, does not necessarily make you a knight in another.

Thank you for reminding me of that.

I have 14 wolves (1 is on the right in my picture) here with us and we take umbrage at your description of wolves ...😎.

Our guys have more class than 98.6% of people in the US and EU combined!

I had a wolf, which we got from a wolf / hybrid breeding program in Indiana. We didn't buy - but ended up as carer for this beautiful animal, as his owner became very ill and spent months in hospital. Kazan was not an alpha, so he was a gentle soul who would submit to our dogs easily. That was decades ago, I wish I had some proper portraits of him, he was too special. He ended his days with another Wolf Lady, who had a pack of 5.

So - while the metaphor is good, it does not accurately describe wolves, I agree. There isn't an animal on this planet which can compare to these monsters. Leviathan, anyone?

Excellent article.

Short Barreled Rifles are the next step up and unbeatable for home/business defense.

Some folks prefer a shotgun, but if your problem is multiple perps, the SBR has numerous advantages.

At home, whereas I might pick up my .40 Browning Hi Power, my M-92 Krinkov with weapon light is dramatically superior. Please spare me the comments on over penetration, I know all about those concerns.

I disagree with the "consensus" that a wheel gun is inferior. In the hands of a properly trained citizen, the revolver is just as useful as any other pistol, and often the most easily concealed.

Plenty of shooters can make chest hits with a snubbie at 5 to 25 yards just as well as with a Glock, 1911, or a 8" Python.

At 5 yards my S/W .38 sp, Airweight Hammerless won't miss, the kick back is lighter, trigger pull is too. The only thing I dislike is the Big Butt, harder to hide. But this is Tennessee, we are use to open carry. And S/W didn't make a holster for it. I buy American, not Chinese junk. every time you buy foreign made an American loses a job is my philosophy. Wish more thought that way.
