This is a keeper--thank you for writing! "If you do not read (DFR), you might as well not be able to read." And the many quotes are sterling wisdom. I can hardly stand reading about dogs dying, but I'm glad I made it past that part. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

I'm sorry, can't read about dead dogs anymore...

Yes, I am that soft.

Got to the Jack London passage had to quit.

Maybe I can read another time.

That and I never knew all those dogs died each year in the Iditarod (sp?). I thought those people loved their dogs and would take care of them. God! I am so stupid.

What a dreamy mystical essay. Needed it when so much is so dreary and overwhelming.

A refreshing human interest story. And it makes me look into the mirror about so many hours spent working to restore our freedom.

I'm a sensitive person when it comes to dogs like Duchess. I have a Pitbull & he is the sweetest boy ever. I'm so glad I read this, a great reminder that we need time off. I never know when to rest, which leads to restlessness. My body is definitely telling me to slow down. RIP Max, an excellent dog!

Read twice as a teenager, Moby Dick is a life lesson that still lives within me.

Bookmarking this for the reading recommendations. Some I’ve read and many I haven’t yet. Once and Future King has always been my favorite. I re-read it recently and it was interesting how different it seemed 35 years later. (In a good way!)

So where is the story about Max and Iditarod?

Max is a metaphor!

Aw. You just ruined my afternoon. :-(

If the Itidarod survival is so markedly better while the numbers are better, wouldn't someone have written the story up? It's just begging to be told... :-)

I believe I read that book years ago. Full of chills to say the least.
