dinosaurs are almost in a class with those hidebound creationists who attend theme parks in Appalachia in which our ancestors can be seen riding upon, cavorting with, and eating these beasts. Sort of like the Flintstones with better artwork but without the jokes.
I find it amazing that we live in a time (about the last two centuries) in which, thanks to the unstinting efforts of talented people bitten by the fossil bug, we are privy to observe enormous slices of time in our planet's history, including the Mesozoic era when these formidable beasts roamed the earth. The work in excavating their remains was staggering. No one got rich doing it. Most started out with inheritances that were exhausted in financing this research. Mary Anning, who chiseled ichthyosaurs and similar creatures out of the cliffs at Lyme Regis, risked her life repeatedly in this work just to support her family. She was poor all her life. In the late 1800s, two men in particular, John Bell Hatcher and Barnum Brown, toiled for years in the worst sort of weather the western high plains and later Argentina could dish out. In the 1920s, Roy Chapman Andrews and even later Michael Novachek, both from the Museum of Natural History in New York put together expeditions to Mongolia that toiled in equally difficult surroundings. The logistics involved were stupendous. None of this valuable work was done in order to scam us into thinking that oil comes from dinosaurs.
I wonder at the vitriol brought on by the abiotic oil argument. The Soviet researchers who first investigated this question were only wondering if some oil might have an abiotic origin, as far as I can tell. They weren't trying to prove that no oil comes from a fossil (algae) source. Minerals can come from different environments as any gold miner can attest. Presumably, oil could as well. Can we keep an open mind?
I have a friend with a ranch in the WEST and they have dug up three dinosaurs already, complete, huge. They have teams of archaeologists that come on the ranch. It’s real, they are real and they are big.
This happened to me one time, and I learned a hard lesson. A lesson that needs constant continuing education in when looking for the truth in this crazy world full of lies. Dr Yoho, it was an honest mistake. You’re still at the top of my favorite Substackers.

When I listened to the article and heard you mention Agent171311, I became skeptical. There were some substacks I initially read from Agent, but almost none of the assertions made in them rang true and upon checking they weren't. I unsubscribed and unfollowed him/her. I was surprised you reposted the Dinosaur substack, but I'm not surprised by the retraction. That being said, the use of the fossil fuel term for the impression of scarcity isn't so farfetched, and I do believe oil is a renewable energy source because I've done quite a bit of digging into abiotic oil. It's one explanation for how dried up oil fields have regenerated. My personal belief is that existing research hasn't been given much credit is because if oil is indeed abiotic and as such a renewable energy, it would seriously impact the world's oil market.
Thanks for this essay. Humility and transparency are hallmarks of a fine thinker. You can't do better. I was just thinking yesterday about oil as the residue of ancient animals and thought, that was a LOT of animals to be compressed into that much oil. If animals were the source of oil, thanks to them. If not, where did the oil come from?
Could dinosaurs have actually been dragons?!? 🧐 plenty of “history” to support that idea believe. Cave drawings, Chinese culture, etc. just a thought….
Here’s another theory: prior to Noah’s flood, there were many species that didn’t survive. If the earth was thick with vegetation and animal life and that was suddenly covered by water, oil could have formed under the pressure.
I know dinosaurs are real and the earth and all that is made was created by God. But I also know there are many who spread their beliefs and lies about both, for their own reasons. That is why I rely on the Bible for the truth. Nobody gets everything right all the time so I appreciate your integrity and humility in bringing us the retraction.
Living in the world of manipulations today is the very hardest thing to tolerate!!!
